Meshem Jackson is a professional drummer, educator, and founder of Meshem Jackson School of Drums, where he helps adult and youth drummers develop the skills, coordination, and confidence to actually play the music they love.
Meshem began playing drums at age 9 and quickly discovered that becoming a good drummer takes more than simply learning a collection of beats and exercises. As a young musician, he experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to know what to practice, in what order, and why it matters. His early teaching experience began in high school, when his band directors recognized both his developing skills and his eagerness to learn and gave him opportunities to lead percussion sections.
That experience eventually shaped his approach to teaching. Beginning in the early 2010s, Meshem began developing lessons specifically for beginners—breaking complex drumming skills into clear, manageable steps while building the fundamentals of posture, timing, coordination, reading, and groove.
Today, Meshem has decades of experience teaching drummers ranging from complete beginners to seasoned players. He has taught one-on-one and group classes, both in person and online, and has helped hundreds of students develop their skills and become more confident musicians.
His teaching philosophy is simple: drummers don't need more information—they need the right information at the right time.
Rather than overwhelming students with endless exercises and conflicting advice, Meshem provides a structured path forward based on where they are now and where they want to go. His students learn what to practice, how to practice it, and how each skill connects to actually making music.
Meshem also brings extensive professional and educational experience to his teaching. He operates his own teaching studio in Redmond, Oregon, and serves as Percussion Department Chair at Cascade School of Music in Bend, Oregon. His work includes private instruction, group percussion programs, ensemble direction, workshops, masterclasses, and performance. He also performs regularly with original and cover bands and as a pit musician for local theater productions.
Whether you're picking up drumsticks for the first time, returning to the instrument after years away, or trying to break through a skill that's been holding you back, Meshem's goal is the same: give you a clear path, teach you the skills that matter, and help you become the drummer you want to be.
